The original YoYoFactory 44 was first released in 2010. Playing off of the "44" name, the yo-yo's weight was manufactured to be 44 grams, and its selling price was set at $44 US. The 2021 version was initially pre-released in a raw, tumbled form as seen here. A little more than a month later, the production version was released in purple and pink anodizing and black and white speckled anodizing.

Why the name "44"? The number 44 is often seen in the yo-yo world, but it isn't clear as to why. In Japanese, numbers are often used to create words. While 44 is normally read as yon yon, it has been adopted by the yo-yo community to read "yo-yo" instead.
