An early Yomega Brain with no imprint on the sidecaps. Yomega released several early versions of the Brain in this manner. These "faceless" yo-yos often go by the name "Phantom Brain."

Before Yomega standardized on "Brain" as the official name, this yo-yo went by "The Yo-Yo with a Brain."

Of interest...
The Yo-Yo with a Brain was invented by Michael Caffrey. Caffrey became a Duncan professional yo-yo demonstrator right out of high school in the mid-1970s. Around 1980, he invented and patented the now famous "Brain" yo-yo and left Duncan to form Yomega in 1984. By 1993, Duncan asked him to come back as director of sales and marketing. He held this position throughout most of the nineties. See the young Mr. Caffrey pictured in the Duncan 1979 product catalog!
