This was the first version of SuperYo's "SS II Sonic Spin" yo-yo. All plastic, including the bearings. Take-apart design. There is no indication on the packaging that this model includes SuperYo's patented IntelliGap(tm) axle system, which actually became available on later released SuperYO models.
While the year printed on the back of the packaging says 1996, that is a copyright year only. Copyright dates are sometimes not an accurate indicator of when a yo-yo was made. To make this point, notice that the second version of this yo-yo also includes 1996 on the packaging. However, it was not manufactured, nor sold, until the early 2000s.
The plane silhouette on the side of the yo-yo is the world famous Supersonic Transport, or SST. The SST ended flight operations in late 2003. As such, the second version of this yo-yo model replaced the image of the SST with a stylized globe that had atoms swirling around it.
At the time, the SuperYo Toy Company was based out of Mill Creek, Washington. However, today the minimal yo-yo product line is marketed under "The NED Show", and produced by All for KIDZ, based out of Lynnwood, Washington.
Original retail price: $15 US.
