This was the second version of SuperYo's "SS II Sonic Spin" yo-yo. All plastic, including the bearings. Take-apart design. There is no indication on the packaging that this model includes SuperYo's patented IntelliGap(tm) axle system, which actually became available on later released SuperYO models.
While the year printed on the back of the packaging says 1996, it is a copyright year only. Copyright dates are sometimes not the most accurate indicator of when a yo-yo was made. This yo-yo was not manufactured, nor sold, until the early 2000s.
What makes this a second version is the replacement of the SST plane silhouette on the side of the yo-yo, as found on the first version. It was replaced with a stylized globe and atom swirls that you see on the yo-yo above.
At the time, the SuperYo Toy Company was based out of Mill Creek, Washington. However, today the minimal yo-yo product line is marketed under "The NED Show", and produced by All for KIDZ, based out of Lynnwood, Washington.
Original retail price: $15 US.
