Yellow/Blue fade lotus flower. The unusual Lotus yo-yo by Sengoku Yo-Yos of Japan.

From sengoku Yo-Yos on July 18, 2024:
"With the upcoming release of the new Lotus, here's some more information!

The Lotus is the latest in Sengoku's series of experimental yo-yos, following the Hattori and the Hanzo. While it is fully functional, it is primarily a study in aesthetics and machining techniques.

The goal was to create a four-petal 'flower; yo-yo that could fully realize the ghost yo-yo illusion started by the Hattori and the Hanzo. The holes in these yo-yos create a floating rim illusion.

The Lotus takes this concept further by extending the holes through the rims, making almost the entire yo-yo, except the bearing seat, visible while spinning.

We want to emphasize that there are some performance limitations due to this design. Rejections are difficult but possible with practice, as demonstrated in the video. The string can get stuck in the gaps, but this is rare during regular string tricks. However, we don't recommend using it horizontally too much.

Ultimately, the Lotus is about owning a piece of intricate machining that posed a challenge for manufacturers but was completed anyway. It looks like a flower on your desk, appears ghostly when spinning, and can perform tricks as well."

About the lotus flower
In Japanese culture, the lotus flower holds profound symbolism and is deeply revered.

• Purity and Enlightenment: The flower is associated with purity and spiritual enlightenment. The reason is because it grows in muddy water but blooms beautifully above the surface, symbolizing the triumph of purity over impurity.
• Spiritual Growth: In Buddhism, which has significant influence in Japan, the lotus flower represents spiritual growth and awakening. It is common to see images of Buddha and Bodhisattvas seated on lotus flowers, highlighting its importance in meditation and spiritual practices.
• Rebirth and Renewal: The lotus flower's life cycle, where it submerges in water at night and re-emerges in the morning, symbolizes rebirth and renewal. This cycle is seen as a metaphor for overcoming challenges and emerging stronger.
• Cultural Presence: The lotus flower is a common motif in Japanese art, literature, and gardens. It is often depicted in traditional paintings, woodblock prints, and is a prominent feature in Japanese gardens, especially around temples and shrines.
• Seasonal Significance: In Japan, the lotus flower typically blooms from mid-June to mid-August, and there are special viewing seasons where people can look on its beauty in ponds and lakes.

The lotus flower's ability to bloom in murky waters and emerge pure and beautiful makes it a powerful symbol of resilience and spiritual purity in Japanese culture.

The Lotus yo-yo was released Friday, July 12, 2024, exclusively from sengokuyoyos.store. It initially came in only a limited quantity pre-sale of eight (total) silver with a black lotus engraving. The yo-yo was officially released in the US on July 19, 2024. The yellow/blue fade seen in this exhibit was officially released a little more than a month later on August 28, 2024.

About Sengoku Yo-Yos
Sengoku Yo-Yos since 2015

Sengoku is a yo-yo brand dedicated to creating high-performance metal yo-yos. The name "Sengoku" refers to the 100-year-long period of warring states in Japanese history. Based in Aichi, Japan, Sengoku focuses on producing top-tier yo-yos. The Sengoku period was marked by near-constant military conflict, which ended with the unification of political power under the shogunate. The majority of their yo-yos are named after significant rulers of the Samurai clans involved in that period. The Lotus being the exception to that yo-yo naming convention.
