From the Sengoku website:
"This is not just a cool looking gimmick, the holes are not cosmetic. The holes are there for weight distribution. It is extremely stable, specially at horizontal play. With stainless steel rings to give it great power.

It makes an extremely cool sound when played (plus you can see through the yoyo while is spinning!).

And no, it does not cut the [yo-yo] string [while it's rotating or stationary].
Great blend of performance and aesthetics."

This yo-yo was officially released October 6, 2017 on three mainstream yo-yo retail websites. A very limited number of pre-sale versions in turquoise (shown in this exhibit) were released September 15, 2017 directly from the Sengoku website. Aluminum body with stainless steel weight rings and size C ball bearing.

Original retail price: $168 US.

Cut outs--and sometimes small holes--in body halves are not new. They have appeared on other yo-yo models over the years. For example, compare the Hattori with some of the following:

-Dif-e-Yo Orbiter
-Adegle Rhongtu
-SPYY Radian Super Light
-Custom Yo-Yo MAG 5 Star and MAG Avenger
-D&H Enterprises Cutlass and Raptor
-BMT KCMO BuzzSaw and Lone Star
-Doctor Popular's Icarus
