From doctorpopular.com:
"The original Bolt is back! This updated Bolt, also known as the Bolt XP, has the same shape and feel as the Bolt from the 2000s, but with a few small updates. The Bolt XP is made from machined POM (very similar to delrin) and features schmoove grooves. The caps are removable. The Bolt XP comes unresponsive, with a C bearing installed, but you can put in a half-spec bearing for responsive play. This updated Bolt, also called the Bolt XP to differentiate it from the original 2000s run, is a killer throw for players of all levels."
"The green, responsive edition of the Bolt XP (see in this exhibit) came set up for old school responsive play. Each one came with a narrow bearing that was packed with silicone grease. These are great for beginners or players looking for a snappy yo-yo that can still sleep through advanced tricks."
The story behind the Bolt XP art
As the old saying goes, inspiration can come from many places and at any time. The sidecap design on the Bolt XP is one such story. Doctor Popular related the following to me in an email May 28, 2024:
"The art on the green Bolt was some graffiti that appeared on a nearby wall around the same time as I was ordering the yo-yo [for manufacturing]. The wall belonged to a construction company [in San Francisco] called Boldt. It all seemed like fate, so I used that graffiti for the sidecaps. "AFN" [on the sidecap] is probably a graffiti crew, though I don’t know what it stands for." See the "Original Bolt XP art" that was on the wall at the construction company!
Released June 2022.
