The Bolt was designed by Doctor Popular (aka DocPop) and made by YoYoJam. It was officially released sometime in 2006. The Bolt has been likened to the YoYoJam Lyn Fury and Kickside in terms of body material, profile, and internals (axle and bearing). The Bolt and the Lyn Fury used dual black o-rings for the response. The Kickside, however, used a hybrid response system. That is, one halve used a single black o-ring and the other halve used a starburst. Other than the response differences, all three YoYoJam models are quite similar. The Bolt came in red, blue, and orange and was responsive out of the box.

The following year, DocPop created the article How to Mod a Bolt Yo-Yo (accessed June 20, 2020). It gave directions on how to convert the Bolt from a responsive throw to a dead throw capable of grinds. The instructions were written about the time that dead response yo-yo play was becoming popular. It included video of some of the first lessons on different yo-yo binds as performed by the late yo-yo player named Houdini.

Note: This yo-yo was actually sold as part of a Kickstarter program that DocPop launched for his new Bolt, part 2 yo-yo that was launched near the end of May 2018. The Bolt in this exhibit was from his personal collection. Eight were made available at the time that you placed your order for a Bolt, part 2.

Original retail price: $50 US.
