The Red Blood Cell, nicknamed the RBC, is a lightweight, hollow-bodied yo-yo made out of 7068 aluminum and designed for original (responsive) play. The RBC actually started out in early 2020 as a wooden, fixed axle yo-yo made by the maker Spinworthy Yo-Yo, based out of Australia. It debuted with the name Blood Cell and was released in small quantities. MK1 YoYos came along in 2021 and took the original Blood Cell design and worked with Spinworthy to adapt it to an aluminum body with a ball bearing axle.

The RBC uses an uncommon axle size , ball bearing, and response pad size.

From MK1 YoYos:
"Rather than using an A sized bearing, we decided to use a smaller MR85 bearing that is only 8mm in diameter, the same as the wooden axle in the original wooden Blood Cell. This bearing combined with the same gap width as the original is intended to replicate the ideal play characteristics of fixed axle yoyos with the smoothness and power of metal. The result is a very reliably responsive yoyo, even with a dry bearing."

The RBC Watermelon edition seen in this exhibit was created by Raftel (aka EOS44), an MK1 YoYo team member. The coloring of the Watermelon was based on Smashing Yoyos' Watermelon Fade color scheme used on their Monocle yo-yo from 2016 (accessed January 15, 2022). Raftel goes on to say, "This colorway is directly inspired by Ralsei, a character from the video game Deltarune. The specific shades of color are pulled directly from his in-game sprites. The 44 logo engraving is a design I made for my tutorial series a long time ago, and that I've been slowly incorporating into the things I do. The hearts engraving on the catchzone is inspired by the way health bars look on older Zelda games. I find the low heart bars charming for some reason."

The engraved "Low HP" hearts on this model have appeared on other MK1 yo-yos from the past including the Exia 2020, Red Blood Cell 2021, Spyglass 2022, and Harbinger 2024. Short for Health Points or Hit Points, HP measures how much damage a player can take in a game before they die. For this series of "HP" yo-yos, an empty heart = bad; a completely filled or partially filled heart = good. The engraved, static heart images on this yo-yo is somewhat misleading if you're not a gamer. You could view the three heart outlines with anodized color as full, and the white filled heart as how much "life" you've used up.
