The Goody Trophy was a one piece, maple wood yo-yo; body came in either all gold or all silver and always included a painted stripe (in this case, red). Unlike the Goody Champion that had three colored jewels or the original Goody Rainbow or reproduction Goody Rainbow models, each with three clear jewels and four colored jewels, the Trophy included four jewels; two on each side of the trophy logo imprint.
Jewel colors were sometimes all random on Goody yo-yos. Occasionally, however, you can come across a jewel color combination and pattern that shows the production worker put some semblance of thought into it. Such seems to be the case with the model in this exhibit with two outer clear stones used along with two inner green-turquoise stones.
By design, only one halve of the yo-yo included the stamped logo and jewels. Today, vintage multi-jeweled Goody yo-yos, in new or near new condition, are hard to find. Usually they are missing paint, or one or more jewels, or have a poor stamp seal.
This model of yo-yo may have been a first place award given to the winner of a Goody yo-yo contest. Hence the gold color and trophy stamp. However, a display box of Goody Trophy yo-yos appeared on the market several years ago, suggesting that these may have also been sold in stores at some point.
Interestingly, the gold color of this yo-yo is quite similar in body color to the gold "Olympic" model sold by Canada's National Yo-Yo (made by Elfverson of Sweden) in the early 1970s.
