Made by "The Charmore Co." of Paterson, N.J., the Gyro Yo Yo is an ingenious gyroscope, yo-yo, and spin top all in one. Based on the patent issue date, this model probably came out in the very early 1950s.
Came in a three color (yellow, red, black) box, 90 mm tall x 59 mm wide x 59 mm deep. Also came with a two-sided printed operation and trick sheet.
The Gyro Yo-Yo was issued patent 2337334 for a "Toy Top", on December 21, 1943 to Raymond J. Lohr of Erie, PA. Assignor was to the Louis Marx & Company, Inc., New York, New York. Interestingly, the patent was initially filed Tuesday, December 9, 1941, two days after the Pearl Harbor.
The yo-yo portion is made of plastic with the inner portion of each halve molded with four equally spaced ribs to provide structure and rigidness.
According to the instruction sheet, "The gyro yo-yo is so constructed and balanced that most of the tricks possible with a conventional yo-yo can be performed. All that is necessary is to attach an ordinary yo-yo cord in the regular manner, replacing the gyro string.
Overall height is 88 mm.
Compare to the Playmaxx Stunt Pilot 3 with Barnstormer add-on.
