The venerable plastic Duncan Butterfly has not changed much in more than 50 years that it has been in production. It still has a plastic body, fixed steel axle, and starburst response. The model in this exhibit, with its "thick" butterfly profile image on the side, is from around 1986-1990. It appears on page 4 of the Duncan Toys 1989 catalog (download PDF [1.9 MB] to see the full catalog.) Came in translucent orange, green, or red. The Butterfly is still being made today in 2019.

In 2012 Duncan released the Butterfly XT. An updated version of the Butterfly, it sported a size C ball bearing axle and silicone groove response stickers.
