The plastic and metal fixed axle Duncan Sportsline Bowling Ball yo-yo return top (Model No. 1070) was packaged on lightweight cardboard and sealed with a clear plastic blister cover on the front.
In 1965, Duncan released its Sportsline series. A line of ball-shaped yo-yos modeled after popular sports equipment. The product line included five different sports balls: Baseball, Basketball, Eight Ball, Bowling Ball, and a Golf Ball.
The Duncan® Sportsline™ series was the final line of yo-yos produced by the original Duncan company before its acquisition by Flambeau® in 1967, which has remained Duncan’s parent company ever since.
In 2003, Duncan reissued the Sportsline series. This updated release included modern versions of the original Baseball, Basketball, Golf Ball, and Eight Ball from the 1965 lineup. It also introduced three new designs for the first time: the Football, Soccer Ball, and Tennis Ball.
Unlike the 1965 Eight Ball, the 2003 version was a very limited edition available by mail only. Customers had to mail Duncan original proofs of purchase from any combination of six Sportsline yo-yos to receive the Eight Ball free of charge.
The bowling ball model in this exhibit was one of three variations that Duncan released over several years in the 1960s. Compare it to the following other two bowling ball yo-yos in this museum:
-Duncan Bowling Ball, No. 2100 (1964)
-Duncan AMF Bo-Yo (1964)
