The book Yo-Yo Tricks by "Fast" Eddy McDonald was a beginner-friendly guide designed to teach readers the fundamentals and flair of yo-yo performance. Originally published in 2009 by SpiceBox™ of Richmond, B.C., and reissued in 2012, the book was illustrated and clearly geared toward children or newcomers interested in learning a fun, skill-based hobby that is yo-yo. It offered step-by-step instructions for a wide variety of tricks—from classics like "Walk the Dog" and "Around the World" to more advanced tricks such as "Man on the Flying Trapeze" and "Brain Twister."
The contents covered the history of the yo-yo and moved into technical know-how (parts of the yo-yo, string length, winding methods) before introducing trick tutorials. The book concluded with a section about the author and his achievements.
"Fast" Eddy McDonald, the book’s author, is a three-time Guinness World Record holder known for his speed and showmanship in looping tricks. His records include an astounding 8,437 loops in one hour and 21,663 loops in three hours—accomplishments that still stand to this day (in 2026) and reflect both his technical mastery and endurance. Born in Toronto, Canada, Eddy toured more than 25 countries by the age of 16 and had brought yo-yo performances to thousands of schoolchildren across North America. His mission extends beyond entertainment: he uses his platform to deliver motivational messages about perseverance and the power of practice.
McDonald’s efforts to inspire and educate are supported by his companion YouTube channel, where he demonstrates tricks and expands on the book’s content.
