A full color, two-sided card from Bandai. From what I have been able to determine, these large, rigid cards were not for sale but given away at official Bandai Hyper Yo-Yo certification centers across Japan at the start of the yo-yo boom in 1998.
Side A of the card featured a picture of five members of Team High Performance showing off their high octane enthusiasm for yo-yos and their radiant smiles.
Side B of the card featured Bandai's Hyper Yo-Yo Official Trick Mark List from Basic level to Hyper level. The goal was to pass off, at a certification center, all 10 tricks in each of the three levels. Each of the 30 trick designs seen on the card were also available to purchase in patch form. The patches were sold in sets of 2 each for 200Â¥, beginning in late August 1998.
The card mentions Hyper Yo-Yo Battle coins of which there were 8 different coins, each costing 100Â¥. The coins were dispensed from Gashapon machines throughout Japan. Gashapon, also spelled gachapon, refers to a type of vending machine-dispensed toy popular in Japan. The term combines two Japanese onomatopoeic words:
• "Gasha" (or "gacha"): the sound of turning the vending machine’s crank.
• "Pon": the sound the capsule makes when it drops into the collection tray.
The card also mentions Jumbo Hyper Yo-Yo Trick Mark Collection Cards. These were sold beginning in late July 1998 at Hyper Yo-Yo certification centers throughout Japan. There were 8 jumbo cards to collect, each costing 100Â¥ each. | |
