The Spin Gear Looping Star - Devilman edition yo-yo was created featuring Devilman, which are still popular even after more than 50 years.
Spingear received official permission from the copyright holder and chose a color for the yo-yo body that is closest to the image of the original work.
The front and back of this model has different designs.
According to the owner of Spingear, "Although it has nothing to do with Devilman, there is a yo-yo trick called Devil Wing (named to match the trick called Angel Wing. I named it after seeing the trick of doing a double loop behind my back in Cam's alley, and it has stuck). I thought that the looping trick was closer to the image of flying in the sky, and I chose light blue, which is close to the color of the body."

About Devilman
Devilman is a Japanese manga and anime series created by Go Nagai. It first appeared as a manga serialized in "Weekly Sh?nen Magazine" from 1972 to 1973, and an anime adaptation aired concurrently. The story is known for its mature themes, blending elements of horror, dark fantasy, and tragedy. It left a lasting impact on Japanese pop culture.
Story Overview
Devilman follows Akira Fudo, an initially timid teenager who learns from his childhood friend Ryo Asuka that demons are real and plan to reclaim the world from humanity. To combat this threat, Akira fuses with a demon named Amon, becoming Devilman, a being with the powers of a demon but the heart and conscience of a human. This transformation lets Akira fight other demons who threaten human existence.
As the story progresses, the plot explores themes of identity, love, loyalty, and the blurred line between good and evil. The series takes a dark turn when it portrays the cruelty and chaos that occurs as society becomes aware of demons, leading to widespread paranoia, betrayal, and violence.
Themes and Significance
Devilman is noted for its exploration of deep and controversial themes. It challenges the idea of inherent good and evil and presents a grim view of humanity's potential for violence and prejudice. The story's tragic and apocalyptic ending shocked many readers and viewers at the time and remains one of the most talked-about aspects of the series.
Go Nagai used Devilman as a platform to comment on real-world issues such as war, discrimination, and the nature of humanity. It is usually interpreted as a powerful anti-war allegory that reflects Nagai's concerns about the Vietnam War and other global conflicts at the time.
Reception
The original Devilman was controversial for its intense violence and disturbing content, but it gained a dedicated following and critical acclaim over the years. It's regarded as one of Go Nagai's greatest works. Today, Devilman is respected for pushing the boundaries of storytelling and continues to influence and inspire new generations of creators. | |
