A 1998 sales sample, or pre-production sample, of the Cyclone yo-yo made by BMT KCMO.

This billet aluminum yo-yo featured a deep-groove shielded ball bearing, model NSK 696Z, made in Japan. Its polished 6061 aluminum body halves gave it a clean, natural finish and help it stand out visually. Note the beautiful spiral hub nub work.

BMT KCMO was a relatively unknown American yo-yo maker from the late-1990s yo-yo boom. At the time, the company sold its yo-yos exclusively through websites rather than brick-and-mortar stores, which was unusual for the period.

According to the seller of the model shown above, BMT KCMO made only a handful of these pre-production samples. The company reportedly gave (or sold) them to potential buyers and distributors at a yo-yo contest where BMT KCMO had set up a booth.

This sample did not come with retail packaging or string. It included only the card insert that BMT KCMO later used inside the full production packaging.

Original retail price: $30 USD

About BMT KCMO

BMT KCMO was a boutique yo-yo company based in Kansas City, Missouri, in the late 1990s. The precise meaning of the acronym "BMT" was never publicly documented.

The company's yo-yos appeared during the yo-yo boom, just before ball-bearing yo-yos overtook fixed-axle designs as the dominant style. Today, collectors value BMT KCMO yo-yos for their vintage design and precise craftsmanship.

BMT KCMO stopped producing yo-yos around 2001.
