Chemtoy's Crown Royal Yo-Yo, model 2072, from the early 70s (1972-1974). At the time this yo-yo was made, Chemtoy Corporation was based in Cicero, Illinois, USA.
The Crown Royal Yo-Yo featured a classic tournament shape profile with a transparent plastic body made in translucent (very) dark green. The yo-yo’s name and logo are gold foil hot stamped in gold on one side giving it a regal appearance. Use a metal, fixed axle, starburst response, and a 100% cotton string. The yo-yo was sold shrink wrapped on a card, which included the Chemtoy branding.
During the 1970s, Chemtoy was a well-known (but small) manufacturer of yo-yos, and the Crown Royal was their top-of-the-line model. Their yo-yo lineup included two other models: the Mark V (model 2071, 70¢s; US), and the Number 1 (model 2070, 50¢s; US).
Original retail price: $1 USD.
About Chemtoy
Chemtoy was founded in the 1940s by Henry and Stanley Cohen in Chicago, Illinois. The company initially focused on producing bubble solution and bubble-blowing toys, which became a huge hit for them. In addition to yo-yos and bubble toys, Chemtoy produced a variety of other toys, including the Chemtoy Shark, which was licensed for the movie "JAWS" in 1975.
In the 1970s, Chemtoy was acquired by the Strombecker Corporation, which continued to produce Chemtoy’s popular products under the Chemtoy brand. How long is unknown. It seems that any production of the brand's toy ceased long ago. | |
