A glow in the dark Humphrey ad yo-yo for the 5th Annual South Bay Roundup. Plastic body and fixed metal axle.
The South Bay Roundup was established in the 1970s as a response to the growing need for a regional gathering of individuals in recovery. Initially, it served as a small-scale event where members of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and their families could come together, share their experiences, and find strength in unity. The early gatherings focused on fellowship, workshops, and speaker meetings. Over time, the South Bay Roundup gained popularity. Attendees came not only from the San Francisco South Bay area but also from neighboring regions and beyond. The convention became a platform for people in recovery to connect, learn, and celebrate their sobriety.
The "5th annual South Bay Roundup", held from June 20 to July 2, 1984, was a significant milestone in the convention's history. The theme for the 1984 South Bay Roundup was "Magnificent Reality". The Roundup aimed to bring together individuals from AA, Al-Anon, Alateen, and other recovery communities. Attendees included those in recovery, their families, and friends who sought healing and fellowship. The convention took place in Redondo Beach, California. The convention hosted various sessions, workshops, and gatherings.
