The Cosmo was the debut release of 3YO3's first yo-yo. Hand-made by Landon Balk, it was originally released in a clear polished acrylic version. These first versions had engraving on them. Landon followed up the clear Cosmo with a bead blasted version, a dyed polished and bead blasted version, and a color polished and bead blasted version. The freshman Cosmo in this exhibit was made from a six foot rod of raw acrylic material.
From latienda.com:
"Before you continue reading I have to clarify one thing: it is not a glass Yo-Yo. It is polished methacrylate, which is transparent, so the appearance of this yo-yo is so amazing and really unique.
This 3YO3 Cosmo looks really nice anywhere, but sunlight is where you'll really be surprised, where sets of lights, highlights, and shadows no longer highlights each yo-yo angle.
The fully transparent finish is left exposed inside the yo-yo, where you can see the axle itself and coiled string.
Methacrylate is not a typical material used in the manufacture of yo-yos, but 3YO3 has already shown what it is capable of, surely you remember other models like the Acryllion Marble or the Acryllion Marble Rock edition. I do not really know which one to stay with…
In practice, this 3YO3 Cosmo is a very comfortable yo-yo. The feel of methacrylate is unique, but during play it's also very peculiar. It is not a competition yo-yo that lets you perform the longest, technical combos, but quite the opposite. If you really want this yo-yo it's because you are a true expert and know that this yo-yo can bring you much more than fast play, the feeling of playing with and having a totally different yo-yo."
Released October 2009.
About 3YO3
3YO3 was a one-man operation run by Landon Balk, a mechanical engineer. Since 2002, he has created handmade yo-yos on a lathe working primarily with acrylic, but sometimes mixed it up with woods, delrin, aluminum, and titanium. He also offered yo-yo modding services. His skills won him the 2011 and 2012 World Yo-Yo Contest Mod Champion title. The business name 3YO3 had been his business moniker since early 2009. It was named after the Roland TB-303 Bassline synthesizer, made from 1982 to 1984. His website www.landonbalk.com has been offline/out-of-business since about September 2015.
