The Duncan Freehand II 2023 - Samurai edition was Duncan's first aluminum version of the original plastic version of the Freehand 2 that first appeared in 2002. The black/silver "Samurai" Freehand II seen in this exhibit debuted exclusively for sale at the 2023 World Yo-Yo Contest in Osaka, Japan, August 18-20, 2023. Several weeks later, this model, along with six other colors (blue, purple, pink, gold, red [Osaka Japan sidecap], and polished gray) went on sale publicly at various webstores around the world on September 7, 2023, 20:00 MST. This model has two different black sidecaps with inner silver body halves. Side A features the grimaced expression of a Japanese Samurai warrior and the text "Duncan"; side B features the Freehand logo with a four-eyed dice character as seen on the 2005 plastic version.
From spingear.jp:
"The diameter and width have been [made] slightly larger than the original plastic Freehand 2, but the overall atmosphere is very limited, and now that it is a bound model with size C bearings, it is a good collectible. It is a model that you can use.
It has a hollow structure like the Duncan FreeBird 2, and it has an attractive usability that is different from other metal Freehand series.
The original Freehand 2 is a yo-yo that was introduced as a successor model when the first generation of the Freehand series, the Freehand 1 (Freehand Original), was discontinued due to various reasons such as problems with the mold.
This model was commonly known as the Freehand 2 in Japan due to its shape being different from the original, but now that only a minority of people know about it, the metal version was released at this time. Please take this opportunity to get your hands on this model, which is indispensable when talking about the history of Freehand.
If you want to know more about Freehand 2, be sure to check out Masaya's blog, who has reviewed Spin Gear products many times , and yo-yo performer Takaya Kaneko's blog!"
From yoyostorerewind.com:
"Duncan - Freehand II
Freehand II is now available in metal.
The 'Freehand' became popular around the world for its performance, appearance, and customizability.
Production of the Freehand II was discontinued due to mold damage. A new model, known as the 'Freehand II', was developed as a replacement.
The 'Freehand II' is a full metalized version of the 'Freehand 2'. It is a bound specification with a slim size pad response and size C bearings.
Unlike the round shape of the series that follows the original Freehand, which is still in production today, the rim portion is considerably rounded. This makes the impact of the catch feel much softer."
