The Duncan Freehand Mini 2023 - Unknown edition used a size C ball bearing axle, unlike the glossy silver version of this same model that used a size A (read: smaller) bearing, instead. Unfortunately, this model did not include the text "Mini" below the "Freehand" name on the sidecap like the other mini models in this same series/release. A major oversight that caused a lot of confusion. Also, a diameter of 52mm is not considered a true mini, either. In this museum, yo-yos that are 50.99 mm or smaller in diameter are considered mini.

The model in this exhibit debuted exclusively for sale at the 2023 World Yo-Yo Contest in Osaka, Japan, August 18-20, 2023. Several weeks later, this model, along with seven other colors (see release list below) went on sale publicly at various webstores around the world on September 1, 2023, 20:00 MST.

From yoyorewind.com:
"Duncan Freehand Mini released in a slightly smaller size.

Freehand, which is loved by many people and has many variations, is finally mini-sized, though not for the first time.

Combined with its rounded shape, it looks very cute. There is a charm that makes you want to collect it. Even though it's smaller, it still retains the soft, gentle feel of Freehand."

The Freehand Mini series was released in two different bearing sizes:

Size C
• World Yo-Yo Contest 2023 edition (red with silver side caps)
• Osaka Japan 2023 edition, seen in this exhibit (pink with silver side caps)
• Yo-Yos are for COOL Kids 2023 edition (mint green with light mint green side caps)
• Unknown 2023 edition (black with black side caps)
• Samurai 2023 edition (silver with black caps)
• Green with gold caps 2023 edition

Size A
• Green with green side caps 2023
• Shiny silver with shiny silver side caps 2023

Size A was the bearing size used in the original plastic Duncan Freehand released in 2001.

Within the first week of the Freehand Mini's initial release on September 1, 2023, by yoyorewind.com, the shiny silver with shiny silver side caps sold out first, followed by the Unknown edition, then the Paul Escolar edition, and finally the green with green side caps.

Oddly enough, no five character alpha quality code was added to any of the models in this series.
