This yo-yo features characters and branding from the long-running Japanese manga and anime series GeGeGe no Kitaro (Spooky Kitaro), created by Shigeru Mizuki. The character on the packaging and yo-yo is Kitaro, the series protagonist, along with Medama-Oyaji, his eyeball father (with arms and legs, too!) who rides on his shoulder. Kitaro is a ghost who spends his afterlife using his skills to help humans in the mortal world. He stops the plans of evil spirits who torment humanity. Because Kitaro has only one eye, his hair always covers the one missing eye.
Manufactured/Distributed by Amada Printing and Processing Co. Ltd. of Okegawa, Kazo City, Saitama Prefecture. The yo-yo was produced in China under their direction and licensed by Mizuki Productions and Toei Animation.
There is no explicit date printed on the packaging. However, given that Amada was actively producing "GeGeGe no Kitaro" goods in the mid-1990s, it’s likely this yo-yo is from that same era—approximately 1995–1996.
The yo-yo's profile is similar to the profile of the classic Jack Russell Coca-Cola yo-yos.
