An officially licensed, souvenir yo-yo sold by the Australian Open (AO) beginning with the tournament’s 2017 merchandise range, notable mainly for its distinctive AO rebrand graphics rather than technical play performance.
The AO logo, the holographic licensing sticker, and the © 2016 Tennis Australia mark indicate this was an official souvenir created for on-site shops and the Australian Open’s online store starting with, or shortly after, the brand refresh that debuted for the 2017 tournament. The "AO" logo replaced the previous shield-style Australian Open logo in late 2016. The © 2016 copyright suggests first manufacture for the 2017 event; the style code (AO453C) implies it remained in the merchandise line for several seasons, so examples could date from 2017-2020 before COVID-era range reductions.
As for the yo-yo itself, it is generic injection-moulded polycarbonate or ABS halves. Likely a fixed/transaxle plastic bearing, aimed at beginners and souvenir collectors.
Licensing Essentials (Australia) Pty Ltd in Rowville, Victoria is noted for sourcing promotional items for large events (Australian Grand Prix, Cricket Australia, and so on). They commission OEM factories in China and handle Tennis Australia’s compliance and logistics. The packaging follows standard retail blister card with euro-slot, but the bright solid-blue field and minimalist typography characterize the event’s clean visual identity.
Original retail price: $10AUD (about $7.67 USD in 2017) | |
