The release of the G Squared Mini Covenant in December 2022 was marked by confusion and poor organization. Preordering and the actual release process was unclear, with too many forms of communication (email, video, and blog post) and shifting yo-yo specifications. Adding to the frustration, the yo-yo is not even listed on G Squared's website (accessed December 15, 2024), nor does it appear in my customer order history—an oversight that underscores the disorganized nature of its launch.
Originally conceived on August 6, 2024, as a concept design (not even a prototype), the Mini Covenant had the following specifications:
Diameter: 46.5mm
Width: 40mm
Weight: 53.5gm
Material: 7068 aluminum per G Squared's blog post
Bearing: Size D
However, by August 22, 2024—the start of preorders—the specifications had already changed:
Diameter: 47.5mm
Width: 40mm
Weight: "56.5g ish" per G Squared's email
Bearing: Size D, concave
Response: unknown
Material: unknown
Finish: Diamond blasted
Color: Snozberries
Despite these changes to the spec, the material used for the yo-yo's production remains unknown. Preorders began August 22, 2022, but the yo-yos did not ship until December 13, 2024.
