Dert's sophomore release (freshman was the Dert), the Baby Dert, was a mini yo-yo made in 2007 by Russell Andert, a CNC machinist from St. Louis, Missouri. Note the signature engraving on the hub nub. A feature characteristic of Dert yo-yos. In this case, the lowercase "d" represented baby dert.

The yo-yo was made and named in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Andert's first newborn child whom they named Eli. Following the Baby Dert, Russ made a second mini yo-yo which he named Eli in honor of his son. By design, Mr. Andert chose to never have an online presence either in the form of a website store or through social media accounts. As such, his yo-yos were usually sold at local yo-yo contests in and around the area where he lived.

Just one production run of the Baby Dert was made. The number of pieces claimed to have been made varies among people, depending on who you talk to and what you read on the Internet. Some claim 12-14 pieces were made. Another person claimed that 9 pieces were made. Bottomline: no one knows. I think it's safe to say, however, that less than 20 Baby Dert's were made by Russ.

The Baby Dert body is made out of aluminum. The weight rings on the inner diameter of each halve are made out of a copper-tungsten alloy (press-fitted onto yo-yo?). The unusual material is occasionally found in other uncommon home consumer-based applications such as competition darts.

A hard to find model.
