The Yoffy (YOH-fee) by Duncan. Uses a rainbow, one inch wide cloth ribbon tether for the "string." An interesting–but short-lived–pseudo yo-yo released in the early 1980s.
Essentially identical to the Imperial Toy Corporation - E-Z Go Ribbon Yo-Yo and the Marchon, Inc. - Ribbon Spinnin' YoYo, both of which were released after this model.
Fundamentally, Duncan never intended the Yoffy to perform, function, or compete on the same level as their traditional yo-yos like the Imperial or Butterfly. Notice that the packaging does not even use the word "yo-yo." However, the Yoffy's brief life, unusual design, and unique play have now made it a great Duncan collectible.
Assigned US patent 4,290,224 on September 22, 1981 to Patrick MacCarthy of Golden, Colorado for a "tape-supported yo-yo." | |
