This donut-themed yo-yo was a novelty promotional toy released in 2005 by Mister Donut of Japan as part of a children's gift set. The set featured two characters: Pon de Lion, the brand’s lion mascot whose mane resembles the brand's famous Pon de Ring donut, and Honey Tail, a squirrel character whose tail is shaped like a glazed donut. The particular model shown in this exhibit is based on Pon de Lion, with a light-up feature embedded in the translucent plastic donut body. The miniature companion figure is attached to the finger loop. When you were yo-yoing it appeared as though you were wearing Pon de Lion as a ring.

Included in the set was an instruction sheet written in Japanese with usage directions, safety warnings, string replacement guides, battery replacement instructions, and diagrams illustrating basic yo-yo tricks. The yo-yo lit up when rotating, powered by a small LR41 battery housed in one half of the yo-yo. The body was molded in donut colors, and though it was designed primarily for children, it was fully functional as a light-up yo-yo.

This toy yo-yo was part of a larger marketing effort to appeal to young families and kids visiting Mister Donut stores in Japan.
