Pickaxe is a mid-sized version of Caribou Lodge Yo-Yo Work's (CLYW) full-size Chief model and the second version in this model.

Design uses a double rim for weight distribution and large, squared off hub nubs. Designed in Canada and made in China. Uses a size C Centre Trac bearing and CLYW-branded response pads for this dead response yo-yo.

Release April 10, 2023

From clyw.ca/shop:
"This special Failure is Unknown collaboration version of the CLYW Pickaxe features engraving and box artwork by Bryan Figueroa.

With a focus on fun over competition specs, the Pickaxe is an undersized version of our long-time standard bearer, the Chief. Featuring our iconic double-rim design and an incredibly comfortable profile, the Pickaxe is designed to be hurled around with reckless abandon while you work out ridiculous tricks that will score zero points.

Remember when you spent four days coming up with picture tricks that were all inside jokes about your friends? Remember when it was 4 am at Worlds and you accidentally hit that one triangle that you still don’t understand how it works? Remember when there were 40 people in Paul Escolar’s hotel room at Las Vegas Open and Bryan Figueroa did that thing and Steve called it The Doughy Frenchman and everyone giggled for like 20 minutes?

That’s what the Pickaxe is for. Have fun!"

What of the characters engraved on the yo-yo?
The symbols seen on side A and B of the yo-yo are identical. They are Unown letters from the Pokémon franchise. Unown is a Pokémon species introduced in Generation II (Gold and Silver versions), and it has 28 different forms, each resembling a letter of the Latin alphabet (A–Z), plus a question mark (?) and an exclamation point (!).

The symbols around the ring of the Pickaxe appear to be a decorative engraving of these Unown characters. I never bothered to decode the symbols to know what it was actually saying.
