The Museum of Yo-Yo History is a labor of love, and we would not be able to stay up-to-date with exhibits without the support of our sponsors and curators. Big thanks go to One Drop Design and Duncan for supplying us with their latest models, YoYoExpert for their help and support, and to Cody Orr, TotalArtist and YoYoBrothers™ for allowing us to use their collections!

When yo-yos caught on starting in 1928, silk yo-yo string (see the Flores yo-yo exhibit) was sold besides cotton yo-yo string. With time, cotton strings became the standard for all fixed axle wooden yo-yos. Even after the introduction of metal axle yo-yos, cotton string was still used. It wasn't until the 90s that new string formulations and materials were introduced that further optimized play and string life.

More than 80 years later, Duncan continues to manufacture and sell white cotton string packs like those seen in this exhibit, including colored 100% cotton string packs. They also have expanded to included white 50% cotton, 50% polyester string packs and colored 50% cotton, 50% polyester string packs.

Original retail price: $3 US.
