An embroidered, three-color patch, this Royal Yo-Yo Champion patch was a collectible piece of memorabilia awarded to participants or winners of yo-yo contests sponsored by the Royal Yo-Yo Company. It is likely from the mid-20th century, during the height of yo-yo competitions as a popular promotional activity.

The diminutive patch had a bold red and blue color scheme, with a crowned motif at its center, suggesting prestige and championship status. The wings extending outward suggest speed and skill, themes often associated with yo-yo mastery. The winged design is certainly unique and eye-catching, likely aimed at standing out and showcasing a player's achievement.

The Royal Yo-Yo Company, established in the 1930s was one of the major players in the yo-yo industry throughout the mid-1900s. It competed with brands like Duncan to market yo-yos through widespread contests and exhibitions. These contests were held in schools, parks, movie theaters, and community centers, helping to make yo-yoing a nationwide craze. Award patches like the one seen in this exhibit were often given as prizes in these competitions, which were typically aimed at children and teens.

Patches like this one symbolize a golden age of yo-yoing, when it was not just a toy but also a sport and form of entertainment. Placing a year on this unusual and challenging patch to find is difficult.
