The Museum of Yo-Yo History is a labor of love, and we would not be able to stay up-to-date with exhibits without the support of our sponsors and curators. Big thanks go to One Drop Design and Duncan for supplying us with their latest models, YoYoExpert for their help and support, and to Cody Orr, TotalArtist and YoYoBrothers™ for allowing us to use their collections!

Chico Yo-Yo Company's Flat Top, released June 2011. Has a curved, organic body shape on the string side while the outer face of the yo-yo sports a completely flat look. The classic profile was made modern by adding a rounded shoulder on each halve, near the response pad. This design made the string gap of the yo-yo much wider to accommodate horizontal play and was forgiving with small tilts or player errors.

During grinds, this wider spacing helped the yo-yo to sit comfortably on a finger or arm. A notable undercut on the lip of the yo-yo assists with grinds and is also a nice place to add an O-ring for those that want to add extra weight.

The flat sides were more than just cosmetic. By separating the rim weight from the center weight, the Flat-Top was described by someone, somewhere, at sometime, as a "race car on rails". That is, it was fast and stable but able to turn quickly and accurately.

The version seen in this exhibit was a glossy red/gold finish. It also came in a gunmetal grey body with green splash.

Original retail price: $85 US.
