One of the smallest sized string packs ever issued by any yo-yo manufacturer, this is Hummingbird's first string pack.
This pack was most likely assembled entirely by hand as evidenced by the hand-stamped address on the front and the staple; no printing at all.
While the pack itself is very basic and plain, it is still a valuable Hummingbird Toy Company artifact. On June 23, 1989, 3.5 inches of rain fell in Arcade, New York, where the Hummingbird plant was located. As a result of the extreme rainfall, 70,000 partly assembled yo-yos and other yo-yo related items were carried away by flood waters that gushed through the ground floor of the plant. "It's incredible. Yo-yos will be floating down the Cattaraugus Creek into Lake Erie for the next month," said owner Brad Countryman, who estimated losses at $200,000. Nearly 17 years later, a 20-page children's book titled, "The Toy Factory Flood" by Judith Frank Pearson and illustrated by Toni Wilson was published in 2016. It was based loosely on the story of the devastating flood in 1989 that impacted Hummingbird.
