The Duncan Freehand Zero - Mid-East Regional (MER) Yo-Yo Contest was a special edition from 2004 that was sold exclusively at the contest. The yo-yo featured a solid white body with yellow sidecaps and black printing. Supposedly 150 of this edition was made.
This version also later came in other *dated* color combinations such as the 2007 solid blue body with transparent black caps with white text edition, and the 2007 solid red body with solid blue sidecaps and white text, and the 2007 solid black body with solid white sidecaps and black text.
In 2004, Steve Brown -- who worked for Duncan at the time -- began to introduce the new Duncan Freehand Zero (FHZ) yo-yo to the world such as the model in this exhibit. The FreeHand Zero was an updated and improved version of the original Duncan FreeHand. Size A ball bearing axle, take apart design, and Duncan Friction Stickers for response. A set of silver spacers (pre-installed) for a standard gap and original response/play. Also came with three collectible counterweights. In this case, a blue rubber bouncy ball, Duncan Boy head, and one red dice.
The 2004 Mid-East Regional Yo-Yo Contest was run by Steve Brown. The contest included the state-level contest winners from Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
Note that extra Freehand Zero side caps were also made and then sold at the event. So, you occasionally may see white-bodied MER FreeHand Zeros in other side cap colors such as sky blue with a white imprint -- not sealed on a blister card -- on the after market. You may also see these special color MER side caps being sold as a set without the white yo-yo body.
The logo on the opposite sidecap is the standard FreeHand Zero logo, also printed in black.
