A 1930s-era "Genuine Duncan Tournament Yo-Yo Tops Reg.U.S.Pat.Off." wooden, one piece, fixed axle yo-yo.

The paint scheme and overall condition of this yo-yo suggests that it may have been given as an award to a young girl at a Duncan yo-yo contest more than eighty years ago. There is no "Walk the Dog" wear on the outer rims and the pink body and blue stripe was a nice color combination to give to a girl. Whomever it was that received this gem, we know her first name was Mary. Filipino yo-yo demonstrators in the 1930s were known for handcarving tropical scenes on the blank side of a yo-yo for contest winners. Notice how the demonstrator cleverly used the painted stripe area to carve the waves and two boats on the blue "water". Also shows a palm tree in the foreground, and the sun setting behind mountains in the background. The carving style used to inscribe the girl's name is classic. The seal on the opposite side is about 95% complete.

I wish I knew for certain the demonstrator's name that carved this beautiful and interesting yo-yo or the full name of the girl.
