A full-page newspaper ad from the Sunday, May 29, 1932 Kansas City Journal-Post advertising a Duncan Genuine Gold Seal Yo-Yo Tournament on Saturday, June 4, 1932. The Journal-Post, sponsor of the event at Fairyland Park, 7501 Prospect Avenue, was awarding $200 (about $4070 in 2022) in prizes. To gain entrance to the amusement park and contest all you needed was to show your Duncan Gold Seal yo-yo at the gate. You also got a discounted price on activities in the park for showing your Duncan yo-yo. Activities included swimming, goats, ponies, and illusion show, a monkey show, a miniature railroad, and many others. There was no age limit to enter the contest.
The entire newspaper page -- a whopping 540 cm tall by 43 cm wide -- is packed with interesting period information; a fun read from more than 90 years ago when yo-yoing was in the midst of a boom across the United States!
