A trick sheet showing and describing ten core yo-yo tricks, most likely from the 1950s. The sheet has no Duncan or Cheerio branding, although it is likely from Duncan. The sheet was given to kids at the store where they bought Duncan yo-yos, or from a Duncan demonstrator. These sheets helped kids to learn the tricks necessary to prepare for a contest.
The same yo-yoing character and trick descriptions on the sheet are also seen in the Duncan trick booklet from the late 1940s and from the 1950s, and even the Cheerio trick booklet from the 1950s.
These ten tricks, along with their names, are what most people still associate with yo-yoing, even today in 2021. They are classic tricks that were invented more than 80 years ago using a fixed axle yo-yo. In fact, it was these famous tricks that helped – in part – to bring about yo-yo booms in the 1950s, 1960s, and late 1990s. | |
