A Duncan yo-yo anomoly from the early sixties. There are a couple of problems with this yo-yo, despite it supposedly being "new" in its package. The first problem is that the yo-yo model inside the polybag -- a Duncan Little Ace -- was incorrectly matched to a Mickey Mouse Club card (see a Duncan Little Ace yo-yo with its correctly matched card). Whether this issue was by design, accident, or a case of "Who cares; just get the product out the door" mentality is unknown. One can only speculate. The second problem is that the opposite side of the yo-yo, the blue halve, has a significant crack in the body. Again, it's not clear if this problem was caused by a Duncan factory worker who failed to pull the reject from production. Or, whether the crack occurred sometime after it was packaged and shipped from the factory. Generally, it is uncommon to see Duncan plastic yo-yos -- or any plastic yo-yo from the same time period for that matter -- exhibit any body cracking.
This yo-yo oddity may also be a case of product/package tampering. It appears that the top of the plastic polybag may have been resealed by a previous owner, but it is difficult to know for sure. Regardless, the yo-yo inside the sealed polybag is definitely mismatched with the card, and its body is cracked. A good example of a second rate vintage yo-yo collectable that is not worth much (about $15 in 2019) and that other yo-yo collectors can learn from. | |
