The YoYoFactory Europe Firedog was designed as a high-performance looping yo-yo. It was maintenance free and very easy to use because it was designed for beginners. The yo-yo had a fixed gap, and could not be opened or adjusted, thereby reducing maintenance to string changes only. The body shape is traditional to looping yo-yos. Bandai adopted the Firedog as the basis for their Hyper Yo-Yo Hypercomet model. At the time, it was one of the most affordable looping yo-yos on the market. Unlike other fixed-gap yo-yos in its price range, the Firedog came with a transaxle (nylon spool bearing), giving it much more spin time. Used a starburst response so you never had the bother and expense of response pads and installing them.
Yo-yo was covered by US patent 6,599,165 for an active starburst tether engagement system.
