Originally sold by SpinGear of Japan in September 2005.

The sponsor team Duncan Crew Japan and the collaboration model of the yo-yo shop SpinGear Japan. Sidecaps were imprinted in black with "Duncan Crew Japan!" centered below the Duncan eagle and name. Also, crew member nicknames were added around the center motif. The team consisted of the following members:

Shingo "TERRY" Terada
Maya "BU-KO" Nakamura
Yuki "CHOOLIN" Nakabayashi
Masato "INO" Inohara
Kota "KOHTA" Watanabe
Hidemasa "SEN" Semba

Bleutria, a design business in Japan that is co-run by Shingo Terada, created the design on the side cap. Bleutria has created yo-yo based designs for yoyorewind.com, YoYoFactory, Duncan, and others in the yo-yo business.

As with all special edition Duncan Freehand Zeros released in this time period, the physical yo-yo itself was exactly the same. The only difference between editions was the body color, side cap color, and imprint. Essentially, if you were collecting these editions, you were just collecting colors and side caps. Yomega used this clever sales gimmick (same yo-yo, different side caps and colors) to the hilt with their workhorse models Raider and Fireball in the late 1990s and early 2000s. YoYoFactory does the same thing today with their Loop 720 model.

After a Freehand Zero package was opened, you could easily swap bodies and side caps from other Freehand Zeros to create new variations. Or, you could alter the playability of the yo-yo (called "modding") by changing the weight, response type, or bearing. For these reasons, Freehand Zero special editions are best collected in their original, unopened packaging.
