The Ken Picou Design Constellation fixed axle yo-yo. Purplehart body halves with a different constellation on each side set in tiny sterling silver (brass?) dots. The diameter of the dots are slightly larger than the head of a pin. A unique and balanced yo-yo; plays beautifully too. The profile looks similar to a Playmaxx ProYo with flat sides and rounded rims.

Side A shows the Big Dipper and the North Star configured with eight dots.
Side B shows the Pleiades configured with seven dots.

The yo-yo itself was handturned by Ken and then tuned. The finish is handrubbed leaving the grain open.

About Ken Picou Design
When the Constellation yo-yo in this exhibit came out around 1990, Ken Picou Design had been in business since 1978. Based out of Austin, Texas Ken was known for his many varied designs in wood including gigantic fishing lures (for wall hanging), lamps, heirloom mirrors and pocket mirrors, massage rollers, and handcopters. During the late 80s and into the mid 90s, Ken handmade beautiful wooden yo-yos using a variety of exotic woods. His product line included the following models:

• Slo-Yo - This model was made from hard rock maple and finished with linseed oil. Configured in tournament style but with flat sides and rounded rims. At the time, he considered it "the finest inexpensive yo available".
• Slo-Yo Pro - This handturned model was made from a variety of exotic woods such as Bocate, Purplehart, Goncalo Alves, Mesquite, and Macawood. Each yo-yo had a handrubbed finish, and was individually tuned by Ken.
• Slo-Yo Kit - An unfinished and unassembled Slo-Yo with two halves, an axle, and a string so you could build and finish it yourself.
• Executive Dueling Set - A bookmatched set of Slo-Yo Pros in a walnut or mahogany presentation box.
Special Pros
• Laminates - Made in similar fashion to the Slo-Yo Pro model, the Special Pros came in five to seven laminated exotic hardwoods glued together in a variety of combinations. You could choose light or dark colored woods.
• Constellation - Seen in this exhibit.
• Sun and Moon - Purplehart Pro with Satinwood inlays of the sun on one side and the moon on the opposite side.
