Champion, second, and third place award patches for Duncan Yo-Yo Contests by Flambeau, from the 1970s. The five star Champion patch–considered first place–was a departure for Duncan from the traditional "First" place patch designs that they usually made. However, it was not unique or unusual. Duncan made a similar patch set design in the late 1950s to early 1960s. See Expert, 2nd, & 3rd place patch awards.

In 1968, Duncan became a division within Flambeau, Inc. These particular patch sets are Flambeau-branded and probably were being awarded from the early 1970s into the late 1970s. Note the registered trademark symbols after Duncan and Flambeau. Compare with 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place awards from 1968.

By 1980, Duncan dropped from their patch designs the registered trademark symbol from "Duncan" and also completely removed "by Flambeau". See 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards from 1980.
