A special limited edition of the Duncan Hornet looping yo-yo with "Hornet" and "Shinji Saito" laser engraved on both side caps. The only thing that made this edition limited was the custom laser engraved side caps; the body was the standard issue 2016 Hornet in translucent blue, clear, and translucent orange. Besides using an aluminum spacer, you could further customize the Hornet using a short or standard axle length, or an axle that was sized best for 2A (looping) play.

These Shinji Saito signature editions were first sold in limited quantities at the 2017 Japan Open Yo-Yo Championship, presented by the Japan Freestyle Yo-Yo Association on November 18-19, 2017, held at the Tokyo Haneda International Airport, the Tiat Sky Hall.

Then, on February 17, 2018 USA/February 18, 2018 Japan, 12 noon Tokyo time, the Japanese yo-yo website SpinGear sold another limited quantity of this particular model. It came in the following 9 different rim/cap style colors, five each.

• Translucent blue body x translucent blue laser engraved caps
• Translucent blue body x translucent neon yellow laser engraved caps
• Translucent blue body x black laser engraved caps
• Clear body x translucent neon yellow laser engraved caps
• Clear body x translucent blue laser engraved caps
• Clear body x black laser engraved caps
• Translucent orange body x translucent orange laser engrave caps
• Translucent orange body x translucent blue laser engraved caps
• Translucent orange body x black laser engraved caps

The versions with the laser engraving on translucent blue and translucent yellow caps were much harder to discern and visually understand; it looked like a mess of lines.

Shinji Saito is a popular Japanese yo-yo competitor and performer who won the World Yo-Yo Contest eight times in the 2A two-handed looping division.

A highly limited edition of the Duncan Hornet that was available exclusively in Japan. These were originally sold without any packaging.

Collected February 22, 2018.

Original retail price: $33 each, US.
