The maker of this patch is unknown but my understanding is that it was awarded by Bob Malowney who ran the National Yo-Yo Contest at the time that this patch came out. He also runs the National Yo-Yo Museum in Chico, California.
There were a total of three different award patches that made up this series, each nearly identical to the other, with the difference being the number of embroidered stars, and the wording along the bottom of the patch. The three patches were the following:
3 Star -- "National YoYo Contest" across top and "3 Star Player" along bottom with three embroidered yellow stars on a blue background.
4 Star -- "National YoYo Contest" across the top and "4 Star Player" along the bottom, with four embroidered yellow stars on a blue background.
Champion -- "National YoYo Contest" across the top and "Champion" along the bottom, with four embroidered yellow stars on a blue background.
