Continuing the Del Toro legacy, the Kestrel was CYYC's (Chico YoYo Company) new undersized masterpiece at the time.
The yo-yo's name refers to a small Hayabusa (Falcon), and true to that name, the Kestrel was a small, powerful throw. With a similar size and weight to the CYYC Del Toro, Kestrel was another option for those who prefer undersized yo-yos.
So, what was the difference between the Kestrel and Del Toro? The most noticeable change was in the side face, where the axle area was raised to a point, and the side rims were made slightly concave for a different visual impression. The rims were also flattened out, so the Kestrel does not lose out to the Del Toro in terms of spin.
The body had a luxurious blast coating, which made grind tricks easier, and the point on the side also made finger grinds easier, thereby reducing yo-yo sleep loss.
Ample rim weight for excellent stability and spin times, a tumbled finish for a smooth handfeel and excellent slip for grinds. The inner ring was slightly undercut to facilitate grinding.
Came with a high quality ABEC-rated bearing and custom silicone pads for response (compatible with flowable silicone and other popular pads on the market).
Collected January 11, 2018.
Original retail price: $75 US.
