The Kitchner Knobs Cheerio is the first Cheerio. Like the later models, the logo was a printed foil sticker, in the well known shape. Some of these are also stamped on the reverse. One version of the story says the ones for export carried the additional stamp, and only the Canadian versions just have the sticker.
The logo reads "Kitchner Buttons Limited, Buttons & Radio Knobs, CHEERIO, Yo-Yo, Kitchner Ont. Canada."
The ones carrying the reverse ink stamp, like this one, read "Pat. Pend. Reg., Design 752823, Made in Canada" in a oval with a large "99" below it.
Kitchner started making these for export to Great Britain and for sale in Canada right at the end of the first big world wide yo-yo boom started by Flores, Duncan, and Hiker of Canada. | |
