The Yomega Power Brain XP was first released in the latter half of 2011.
Taking the Yomega Brain to the next level, the Power Brain XP was the first auto-return yo-yo to incorporate an On-Off mechanism known as a "Smart Switch". The Smart Switch let you quickly change to either automatic returns or traditional, manual returns, at any time, without having to disassemble the yo-yo. As your play experience improved, the idea was that you could use the same yo-yo to transition from a yo-yo that automatically returned to your hand to a traditional yo-yo where you gave the string a tug to have it return instead. The basic throw and the sleeper are foundational yo-yo tricks to learning nearly every other string trick known. The Power Brain XP helped in that transition.
As with the original Yomega Brain, the end of the yo-yo string needed to be wrapped around the transaxle bearing 2-3 times to ensure the yo-yo returned to you in either mode. At the time that this model was released, the front of the card indicated "Patent Pending" status. However, by the time this model's sibling was release in 2012--the Yomega Gamma Brain Wing--both yo-yos had the following three U.S. patents assigned to them: 4,895,547, 6,565,408, and 6,494,761.
Came with extra string. One side of the yo-yo shows the "brains" of the yo-yo and the "Auto-Off" switch. The opposite side has an imprint of the "Yomega Power Brain XP Smart Switch" logo.
Note that the back of the card says "Package © 2005." indicating the copyright year of the packaging, not the yo-yo.
