This is the 2017 international boxed version of the orange Loop 720. The same color of yo-yo that was frequently used in 2017 by the 2017 World 2A (looping) champion Shu Takada of Japan. (Shu used identical orange colored yo-yos in the August 2017 World 2A contest, but they were the prototype Loop 2020, not the Loop 720. As of April, 2018, the Loop 2020 still had not released.)

Several yo-yo webstores in Japan and the USA sold this model and color of yo-yo, touting it as the Japanese version, which was only partially correct. The yo-yo is the Japanese version (used red spacers), and its enclosed instruction sheet was in Japanese. However, the packaging--a YoYoFactory-branded box--was in American English. Hence the "international" boxed designation.

Original retail price: $18 US.

The all-Japanese version--bubble carded with all Japanese text and a picture of Shu Takada on the front and back, Japanese instruction sheet, and orange Loop 720--was only available directly from the brick-and-mortar yo-yo stores in Japan (see exhibit below). For some unknown reason, they would not (could not?) sell the full Japanese version from their affiliated websites. So, if you were outside of Japan and ordered this yo-yo you were shipped the International boxed version instead.

The Loop 720 in this exhibit came standard with red metal spacers. Spacer sets were also available in green and blue sets depending on your needs:

-Red spacers are used when you want a narrow string gap. They provide strong response which helps you better control your loops and minimize spin time at the end of the string. This set is generally not used for string tricks. These spacers are the tallest of the sets.

-Blue spacers are used when you want a medium string gap for just enough response for looping and just enough spin time to perform original string tricks like Around the World, Brain Twister, Walk the Dog, and Eiffel Tower.

-Green spacers are used when you want a wide enough string gap to provide for long sleep times while performing string tricks; they are generally not used for looping. Because the cup is lower on these spacers, it makes the yo-yo the least responsive compared to red and blue spacers. It is best to add lubrication to the bearing when using this set.

The Loop 720 uses a size K ball bearing axle and starburst response. It is a workhorse model in YoYoFactory's overall product line, being released in numerous special editions and colors while still using the basic design. Adding Shu Takada's name on the yo-yo is also a powerful marketing endorsement from a looping professional world champion. The string length on looping yo-yos has shortened considerably over the years. This change has, in part, made them easier and faster to loop when compared to looping yo-yos from the 20th century that had much longer strings making them very challenging, but far more graceful to watch. The string length on a stock Loop 720 is between 70-75 cm (about 2 feet 3 inches to 2 feet 5 inches).
