When Yomega renamed their very first transaxle yo-yo model from Outrageous Yo (1989) to Fireball (1990), it was initially released in a red cap/gold imprint version with a clear body, and a black cap/gold imprint version (seen in this exhibit) also with a clear body. For these earliest Fireball models, Yomega used clamshell-style packaging with card inserts (again, as seen in this exhibit). For collectors, these early versions in their original packaging are challenging to find now.
While the design of the yo-yo has changed very little for more than 30 years, one noticable difference was the use of four internal cross-ribs in each halve. These early Yomega transaxle yo-yos are easily identified by the use of these internal cross ribs. Yomega eventually eliminated the cross-ribs from their molds sometime in the mid 1990s. The printed card that came with this model was very sparse on text compared to other Yomega models from the same time period.
