The American Spinner "Pocket Rocket" from around 1988 or 1989 was a one piece wooden yo-yo that was actually made in Sweden by Halvorsen. The same company that made so many of the wooden yo-yos that were sold in Canada in the 60s and 70s. The body shape and dimensions of this model are identical to the Canadian National Olympic and National Pro Tournament models from the 70s.

The quality of this model was not as good compared to the Standard and Collector models from American Spinner. The pocked gold seal and imperfect rim area is more typical for what you would find on the Swedish Halvorsen yo-yos. Still, this model is quite hard to find nowadays (2025).

This model of yo-yo came out in 1990. By the mid 90s wooden yo-yos began to give way to mass produced plastic and metal yo-yos. By about 2004, the golden age of Tournament-style wooden yo-yos—the staple of yo-yo play since 1928—had all but disappeared.

Original retail price: $4 US.
